Emerson and Ridge

Emerson Street and Ridge Avenue

Geometric murals by James Marshall aka Dalek complete the reconstructed intersection at Emerson Street and Ridge Avenue, which also features the Stitch sculpture by Warren Langley.

These murals are part of six mural projects that were produced by the Evanston Mural Arts Program in 2018.

What brought you to Evanston?
Leah and Dustin of Evanston Mural Arts Project brought me to evanston… it sounded like a great project.. and I was excited to work with them and up in Evanston. I had lived in Chicago for years.. but never made it up along the lake to visit.

How does your environment inform your art?
I try to build compositions based on where they are going. Who will see them and how they fit the space. In this situation the main consideration was the giant yellow sculpture in the center island underneath the tracks.

What is your medium?
For murals I always use house paint.

Describe your art, in a hundred words or less.
I/m horrible at describing what I do… I tend to just do things and not worry about what it is. Feel free to interject and add your own description I wont mind in the slightest.

What are you currently working on?
Currently I am preparing for a show in London March 2019. So I am finishing up some paintings and getting ready for the holidays

Name one piece of art, by any artist, that blew your mind or otherwise inspired you.
So many, but hmm, I’d say I always come back to Hieronymus Bosch's garden of earthly delights.

Why art?
Something to do i guess ; )
